Seasons Greetings from 1-Stop

Can you believe it? 2016 is coming to an end. Time flies!

I would like to thank you for your valued support in what has been a challenging year for our industry.

1-Stop has had a big year and I would like to recap on some of the big events happening not only for us but also for the industry.

Earlier this year, the SOLAS put in a mandate that required the mandatory verification of the gross weight of packed containers – the VGM. Luckily for Australian customers, to report the verified weight of containers was relatively easy thanks to our PRA system that we already had in place, and the collaboration between stakeholders. In Australia, the disruption was kept to a minimum as everyone embraced the change.

There have been 3 major disruptions across the shipping industry this year: the Hanjin crisis, Japan’s 3 big group’s Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K Line), Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd (MOL) and Nippon Yusen KK (NYK) agreement to spin-off their container shipping business into a new joint venture company, as well as Maersk’s plans to acquire Hamburg Sud.

Technology disruptions are the new norm for any industry. We’ve seen Uber disrupt the taxi industry, we’ve seen Airbnb disrupt the hotel industry and it’s fair to say that almost every industry will experience some form of technical disruption over the coming years. Some new technical terms that are the catalyst for these changes, include: Automation, Internet of Things, robotics, and Artificial intelligence. Those are some of the reasons for technological disruptions, so expect to hear more advances in 2017.

You’ve all heard about Big Data and the opportunities it presents to your business. Well, 1-Stop is 14 months into an initiative we have called BigCargo, which is all about uncovering opportunities in our cargo information. You will hear a lot more from us about BigCargo and other very exciting new developments in 2017 and how it can help your business, so stay tuned!

For now, a more predicative disruption is about to conclude 2016…. Santa Claus is on his way!

On behalf of the 1-Stop team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. We look forward to working with you in 2017, which is sure to be a very exciting year for us all.

Thank you again for all your support.
